FAQ

Do you use animal products?

We never use lard or tallow in our handmade products. The only non-vegan items are beeswax-based balms and salves (body and lip) and any cold process soap that contains honey or goat milk.  These will be clearly labeled.  All other products are vegan unless otherwise noted. Vegan-wax and almond or coconut milks can be substituted on custom orders.

Do you use fragrances in your products?

Why yes, I do!  I am personally not a fan of unscented soap - but will often offer it as an option for those do.  Our soap is scented using only essential oils or premium phthalate free fragrances.  They are lightly scented.

Why do you put arrowroot powder in body butters?

Arrowroot eliminates that hard greasy feel and adds a silky quality to the butter, which allows it to melt into your skin. I find it a better option than cornstarch.

Do you teach soap making classes, how do I make body butter, etc.?

Unfortunately, I do not.  I also don't give my exact formulations, but you can feel free to search the web for tutorials!

How do I get my soap to last longer?

Handmade soap requires special care because of its freshness and lack of chemicals. Keeping your bar as dry as possible, using a self-draining soap dish and a cotton washcloth are all ways to ensure you get the highest and best use out of your bar.  We also sell Spanish Cedar and African Cherrywood soap dishes to drain the water from your bar and keep it dry.

Do you make soap favors for bridal and/or baby showers?

Yes!  Please send an email to handmade.stacey@gmail.com for a quote.

Do you do custom soap orders?

We love to work on new projects. Feel free to contact us for a design quote and minimum order requirements.

Why does my soap look different from the last time I ordered it?

Because it's handmade, hand-poured, and hand cut using natural ingredients.  This means that colors, patterns, and shapes can and do vary from batch to batch.  Please allow for color differences in your finished product.  However, the formula and scent blend has not been altered in any way.  If it has, it will state so in the description.

Climate Alerts:

Soaps are cold processed and not affected by temperature.  Skin care products (butters and salves) should be kept at room temperature to avoid melting or freezing.

Please take your climate conditions into consideration before ordering.  Certain times of the year they may melt  during transit.  We are not responsible for loss or damage due to weather conditions.  If your butter or salve does melt during transit it will still be good and usable.  Simply pop it in the refrigerator to resolidify.

Do my items have an expiration date?

Cold process soaps do not have a shelf life.  In fact, they get better with age because they've been curing longer.  The longer the cure, the better the soap.

Because we are not a lab that uses harsh preservatives:  Use unopened body butter, bath butter, lotion, body oil, or lip products within one year of purchase.

Use opened body butter, bath butter, lotion, body oil, or lip products within six months of opening.

Store your products in a cool, dry place and avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

How much does my soap actually weigh?

Unless stated, artisan soaps will be no less than 4 ounces, and generally no more than 5 ounces.  Somewhere in the middle at 4.5 ounces is more likely.  Certain times of year we do mini bars and they are generally between 3.0 to 3.5 ounces.

All of our soaps handmade and individually hand cut.  Some ingredients also weigh more than others. The weight will vary from bar to bar due to the hand cut nature.  We try and stay as close to the possible to the cut so they are uniform, but bar weight may vary slightly.

How can I make my soap last longer?

For longer lasting soap bars do not allow them to sit in water. After use, place in a nice dry area and preferably in a soap dish.  You can purchase Spanish Cedar and African Cherrywood soap dishes here.
